The best way to find a USTA league team and get involved in Richmond tennis is
to join a tennis club or community center with an active tennis program. If you would like information on some
local clubs with active tennis programs, please complete the form below.
USTA LEAGUES
What are they? USTA League Tennis is the country's largest recreational tennis program, providing organized, structured
team matches for players of all ability levels. The USTA’s league program had more than 500,000 participants
in 2009 for a reason:
Ø
Leagues
offer players lively competition with players of a similar level.
Ø
Leagues
offer a social atmosphere and the opportunity to meet other players in your area.
Ø
As
part of a team players have a built-in support entourage.
Ø
Leagues
offer a regular match schedule with some flexibility (you probably won’t have to play every week).
Ø
Most
USTA Leagues offer a chance for league winners to advance to District, Sectional & National Championships.
All of the above for less
than the price of a one-hour tennis lesson!
What to expect. Leagues focus on team competition, and Team Captains
choose their teams. League matches take place at set times during specific seasons, sometimes lasting as
long as eight weeks. Because most leagues use a doubles format, expect to play doubles as much as or more
than singles.
How to prepare. Find a team that has players of an ability level similar to yours. The USTA bases its leagues on NTRP ratings.
Visit the NTRP ratings page for information on how to self-rate. To join USTA, visit http://tennislink.usta.com/leagues/ and click on the “Join the USTA” link under USTA Membership.
How to get the most out of it. Many teams have weekly practice sessions.
Take advantage of this opportunity to improve. Also, learn to play and enjoy doubles. You’ll play
a lot more tennis if you can play both singles and doubles!
